Description

Spun from General Motors’ full-size pickup and sport utility lines for 2002, the six-passenger four-door Avalanche offered features previously unseen in both categories. The most prominent was called a ‘Midgate’ that extended the cargo area by folding the rear seats, removing the back window and lowering the divider separating the box from the cabin. A removable three-piece hard tonneau provided security for the bed and its contents. Second-generation Avalanches arrived for the 2007 model year with a 5.3-liter V8 or an optional 6.0 that was dropped for 2010.

What is Auto Edit?

Welcome to AutoEdit, a new and slightly more irreverent weekly feature from Wheelbase Media.
Rather than your pages being a collection of random auto stories, the AutoEdit feature is intended to be the glue that holds it all together. Just as your editorial page is intended to be the pulse of your newspaper, Auto Edit can also be the pulse of your auto pages.

Auto edit runs 500-550 words and is all about your readers becoming more familiar with our key staff members via their personal views on the automotive world. Of all 18 of our weekly features, AutoEdit is the only one intended to provide weekly commentary. Journalistically speaking, this is just common sense since such commentary does not belong in our other news-type features.

Whether your readers agree or disagree with what’s written, they’ll know exactly how the writers of AutoEdit stand on their chosen topics. And, quite frankly, a little spirited debate is a healthy thing and that seems to be missing from more and more newspapers these days. AutoEdit is all about soul, getting back to the basics of solid content and showing readers that there are real people behind the nine-point typeface.

Story Intro

The Sportage was one of the first Kia models to land in North America. Four generations later, it’s an entirely different vehicle that plays in an entirely different league of competitors. The 2017 Sportage resembles the 2016 model, yet there are still plenty of differences. Most obvious is the rounded front clip containing an enlarged grille that juts out farther from the hood.

Use: Voted the best automotive news column available: you need it.

What it is: If you could have only one automotive feature, this should be it. At Wheelbase Communications, we’ve chosen to stay away from providing an automotive-news column until we could do it in a non-traditional way. And here it is: the Auto Sleuth. Our worldly gumshoe has his ear to the ground, digging up the latest news on everything from product launches and updates to names in the news. The column is solely driven by reader interest. No boring statistics or auto-company pap here, just the straight goods peppered with the Auto Sleuth’s commentary and speculative, gossipy-style.

Description

Painting a car is expensive, you’re graphically limited and, well, your decision to proceed is pretty irreversible. These are three key reasons why vinyl is gaining popularity. Whether for advertising or for nothing more than personal preference, Bernie Michaud, president of INCOLOR, Inc., (www.incolor.ca) explains that vinyl wraps are quickly becoming the design option of choice for business and vehicle owners who crave visibility, with some flexibility.

Description

The man on the radio caught my attention with the report of an accident, but not just any accident. He was talking about the first person, ever, to be killed in an incident involving a car. It happened more than 115 years ago in 1899, in New York City, apparently, to a man named Henry Bliss.
As a pedestrian struck by an electric taxicab after he got off a street car, he was the first person to find out the hard way what many pedestrians wandering the streets today have yet to learn: that flesh and blood loses to moving metal, every time.
