Description

The Genesis — the car and not the luxury brand that came later — represented radical change for Hyundai. The rear-wheel-drive sedan (a coupe came later) was designed to rival full-size luxury offerings from Europe, Japan and North America. Base models came with a 290-horsepower V-6, while an optional 4.6-liter V-8 delivered either 368 or 385 horsepower, depending on whether you pumped regular or premium gasoline into the tank. Both engines were connected to six-speed automatic transmissions.
