As the hours of darkness increase, it’s a good time to ask this question: what is the deal with deer? Don’t get me wrong. I like ’em. Not the way some people do, which is roasted on a spit or smack in the middle of a gun-sight. I just like them. They’re beautiful, gentle and strong . . . But they just seem to follow the time-honored clichŽ and are mesmerized by my headlights. I literally felt the collision before anything else. Then I heard it, then I saw it.

Description

I was at the tail end of a pack of cars that were lined up at a yield sign, all waiting for a break in traffic. Suddenly, a woman in a dirty SUV behind me got on the horn, honking with one hand and gesturing rather animatedly with the point of a lit cigarette squeezed in the other.
She either couldn’t or wouldn’t wait for the cars ahead of her to proceed safely into the flow of traffic. So, she drove over the curb, around me, clipped a bus stop and mouthed what I can only imagine were words she wouldn’t want her mother to hear stumble out of that big trap of hers.

Description

As a kid, I knew winter was coming when mom began harassing dad to clean out the garage to make room for the car. When I grew up and moved out, I naturally began to follow their lead and now I only park my car in the garage when the mercury dips below a certain temperature. It’s strange the kind of habits you pick up from your parents.
The rest of the year, my car is left to drip oil on the freshly paved driveway, and the garage is used to store all of the junk I don’t want cluttering up the house.

Description

It has been many years since we’ve seen the kind of automotive styling diversity that’s all around us today. Even my father, the type of guy who doesn’t think anything — and I mean anything — has been done right since the 1950s, was remarking about how he actually likes what’s going on in car design.
