What is Auto Edit?

Welcome to AutoEdit, a new and slightly more irreverent weekly feature from Wheelbase Media.
Rather than your pages being a collection of random auto stories, the AutoEdit feature is intended to be the glue that holds it all together. Just as your editorial page is intended to be the pulse of your newspaper, Auto Edit can also be the pulse of your auto pages.

Auto edit runs 500-550 words and is all about your readers becoming more familiar with our key staff members via their personal views on the automotive world. Of all 18 of our weekly features, AutoEdit is the only one intended to provide weekly commentary. Journalistically speaking, this is just common sense since such commentary does not belong in our other news-type features.

Whether your readers agree or disagree with what’s written, they’ll know exactly how the writers of AutoEdit stand on their chosen topics. And, quite frankly, a little spirited debate is a healthy thing and that seems to be missing from more and more newspapers these days. AutoEdit is all about soul, getting back to the basics of solid content and showing readers that there are real people behind the nine-point typeface.

Story Intro

It wasn’t easy, but I steadfastly remained in front of the TV, floating teeth and all, to watch NASCAR’s longest race, both in terms of distance traveled and in particular the time needed to complete it.

A whopping five hours and fifteen minutes later, not including an additional hour of incessant pre- and post-race babble, my mind was mush, my back ached from too much sitting and my bladder cried for mercy.

Yes, this is my final Coca Cola 600 race, and quite possibly the last complete NASCAR race I’ll watch unless some drastic – and I do mean drastic – changes come about to make me happy. To that end, I humbly offer a few suggestions, some more comedic than others, to take away some of the pain…

Description

Sir William Lyons would be pleased, but likely perplexed at the same time with the arrival of the 2014 F-Type roadster. Under his reign, Jaguar’s founder oversaw the creation of numerous sports machines, culminating with E-Type (marketed as the XKE on our shores), regarded as one of the most spectacularly gorgeous cars ever produced.

The two-place E-Type convertible and its hatchback sibling went on sale in 1961 and enjoyed a 10-year run. Now, four decades later and 28 years since Sir William’s death, the British automaker’s current minder, India’s Tata Group, has signed off on a fresh roadster.

Description

Head down to the local dealer with a particular car in mind and the first question you’ll likely be asked is, ‘Were you after a DX, LX, ES, ES-R, EX-R . . . or the ES-RXLi with the Sport, Leather, Chrome and Navigation packages?’

Stumped, you would ask for the differences to be explained and then, after a few sleepless nights comparing miles of spreadsheets, you would cross your fingers and make a selection.
