Description

Nearly 25 years ago, few thought it was possible, but the 1991 Acura NSX did not disappoint. Honda wanted to build a sports car that reflected its dominance in the engine construction for Formula One open-wheel racing. The NSX challenged European exotics by offering similar, if not better, performance in an easy-to-drive package, that was almost as easy on the wallet.

Description

He joined Daimler-Benz in 1958. He was named head of Design in 1975. He retired in 1999. It was that simple, and so very complex. For 41 years, Sacco worked and eventually presided over the designs at the world’s oldest automaker. He went from stylist to style setter. He went from the tiny town of Udine to the top. He had a vision and he knew about values. “At Mercedes-Benz must always look like a Mercedes-Benz,” he once said.

Description

That base GLA250, although hardly “base” in any real sense of the word, is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates a modest 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. However the AMG’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder steps up to the tune of 355 turbocharged horsepower and 332 pound feet of torque.

Description

After months of waiting and then not getting what we ordered, complaining about work ethic isn’t going to get the job done. You would think that it would be as simple as dialing up some pizza, with the exception of the “there-in-30-minutes-or-it’s-free” part. Welcome to the world of custom parts.
Why did we even have to order custom wheels? That’s a good place to begin and the answer is simple: nothing off the rack in the right width would fit over our brake calipers, let alone within the fenders of the mighty Project Plymouth.

Description

More than 65 years later and the evolution continues. It’s an icon of American culture, work ethic and rough-and-tough play. For a quarter century, Ford has been selling more pickup trucks than anyone in the universe.
The 2015 Ford F-150 has an aluminum body and can be had with a high-tech twin-turbocharged V6 engine displacing just 165 cubic inches. It makes more than triple the horsepower and twice the torque of the original six-cylinder engine that was also 35 percent larger.

What is Auto Edit?

Welcome to AutoEdit, a new and slightly more irreverent weekly feature from Wheelbase Media.
Rather than your pages being a collection of random auto stories, the AutoEdit feature is intended to be the glue that holds it all together. Just as your editorial page is intended to be the pulse of your newspaper, Auto Edit can also be the pulse of your auto pages.

Auto edit runs 500-550 words and is all about your readers becoming more familiar with our key staff members via their personal views on the automotive world. Of all 18 of our weekly features, AutoEdit is the only one intended to provide weekly commentary. Journalistically speaking, this is just common sense since such commentary does not belong in our other news-type features.

Whether your readers agree or disagree with what’s written, they’ll know exactly how the writers of AutoEdit stand on their chosen topics. And, quite frankly, a little spirited debate is a healthy thing and that seems to be missing from more and more newspapers these days. AutoEdit is all about soul, getting back to the basics of solid content and showing readers that there are real people behind the nine-point typeface.

Story Intro

There has been plenty of news lately about Tesla Motors’ efforts to open its own retail stores, bypassing the middle men: the traditional dealership. Why can’t you buy an electric car from a giant vending machine, like you can a set of headphones at the airport? Why does the government even care?

Description

Original just one. Decisions, decisions. It would seem that there really aren’t all that many when restoring a vehicle. The road map is right there in front of you. If you realize that it’s only original once, then you can never, ever get back to original. What really matters, then, when it comes to a restoration is that it looks brand new and, for the most part, correct. For the most part?

Starting with a restored car has a number of benefits when it comes to a project like this. Now, you could put a half-finished car in the garage or go out and buy a totally finished car with the intention of carrying out modifications to improve the driving dynamics. Improving a finished car has a couple of key advantages, not the least of which is saving time. Cars are fun to work on – usually. . .

Description

The boiling point is reached as a botched wheel order forces us to take matters into own hands, with powder coating to make it right. I can see that he’s telling me all about power coating, since his lips are moving, but no words are coming out of his mouth. They’ve been replaced with the ringing in my ears. It’s not the first time Marcel Allain has slammed together two hollow aluminum cylinders – the kind used to carry oxygen – to show just how tough their powder-coated finish is. And it won’t be the last. Here he goes again . . . uh oh.
