Looking back, even Darrell Waltrip admits that calling out “King Richard” probably wasn’t such a bright idea. The year was 1979, Richard Petty was in his prime and a brash loudmouth known simply as “DW” introduced himself to reporters by saying, “Hello, I’m Darrell Waltrip and I’m here to take Richard Petty’s place.” Bold? Certainly.
But nothing compared to his stunt a few years earlier when the Owensboro outlaw was chased by Kentucky police, an incident that ended with his car taking six bullets during the pursuit.

Description

He seemed destined for automotive design. Harley Earl’s father was a coachmaker who formed Earl Automobiles in 1908 and began making customized parts and accessories for cars. Harley, born in 1893 in Los Angeles, Calif., attended university but returned home before completing his engineering studies to focus on styling. By the time he was 25, Earl was creating custom auto bodies for most of Hollywood’s elite. His trademark was the outrageous and adventurous.

Description

Acura’s flagship sedan began as the 3.5 RL, which replaced the Legend for the 1997 model year. The 3.5 designation was dropped when the second-generation RL was launched for 2005. That model came with standard all-wheel-drive along with a 290-horsepower V6 and a five-speed automatic transmission. The RL received a minor makeover for 2009 plus a new 300-horsepower 3.7-liter V6. A six-speed automatic transmission replaced the previous five-speed unit for 2012, one year before the RLX replacement arrived in early 2013 as a 2014 model.
