Description

The first wave of muscle cars in the late 1960s and 1970s was the casualty of high insurance rates and expensive gas, which at first neutered horsepower and then pretty much killed it all together. The muscle cars never came back, but the pony cars, the Mustang, Camaro and Challenger, squeaked by to became the new muscle cars of today. Dodge dealers are merrily selling every 707-horsepower Hellcat Challenger and Charger they can get their hands on and Ford dealers are doing likewise with the new Shelby GT350.

Description

The Mazda3 sedan and hatchback wagon supplanted the ProtegŽ sedan and ProtegŽ5 wagon for the 2004 model year. This was followed by a sportier Mazdaspeed3 hatchback that arrived for 2007. Following six successful years, an all-new second-generation Mazda3 and Mazdaspeed3 were introduced for the 2010 model year. Under the hood was your choice of a 148-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder or optional 167-horsepower 2.5. The Mazdaspeed3 continued with a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder that made 263 horsepower.

What is Auto Edit?

Welcome to AutoEdit, a new and slightly more irreverent weekly feature from Wheelbase Media.
Rather than your pages being a collection of random auto stories, the AutoEdit feature is intended to be the glue that holds it all together. Just as your editorial page is intended to be the pulse of your newspaper, Auto Edit can also be the pulse of your auto pages.

Auto edit runs 500-550 words and is all about your readers becoming more familiar with our key staff members via their personal views on the automotive world. Of all 18 of our weekly features, AutoEdit is the only one intended to provide weekly commentary. Journalistically speaking, this is just common sense since such commentary does not belong in our other news-type features.

Whether your readers agree or disagree with what’s written, they’ll know exactly how the writers of AutoEdit stand on their chosen topics. And, quite frankly, a little spirited debate is a healthy thing and that seems to be missing from more and more newspapers these days. AutoEdit is all about soul, getting back to the basics of solid content and showing readers that there are real people behind the nine-point typeface.

Story Intro

Mustangs are built to suit a wide range of budgets, content and performance levels, but the most potent version remains recognizable despite excluding the Mustang name entirely.
Of course, the Shelby GT350 owes its existence to Ford’s iconic pony car, but from its initial 1965 creation this model has catered to competition-minded buyers who are more concerned with lap times than creature comforts.
The GT350 nameplate has been applied sporadically over the past decade, but the latest version is easily the most potent of them all.

Description

When the NASCAR Hall of Fame was opened a half dozen years ago, of course Junior Johnson was on the inaugural list of five inductees.
And of course he was in fast company: NASCAR founder Bill France Sr.; Richard Petty (who won 200 races) and the incredible Dale Earnhardt. They’re all heavyweights who have meant the world to NASCAR and beneath the statistics Junior Johnson is no different. He simply personifies NASCAR’s roots.
