Description

This native of Argentina, and one of the best drivers to have ever raced, enjoyed his greatest triumphs at an age when most of his contemporaries had already retired – or died – behind the wheel. From 1950-’58, Fangio captured the Formula One World Championship five times, winning 24 of 51 events entered. Before racing, Fangio actually worked as a junior mechanic at a Studebaker dealership in his hometown of Buenos Aries.

Description

Tearing up the Web with an 845-horse all-wheel-drive 1965 Mustang and other-world driving skills. What began as a 1965 Mustang sure didn’t end that way. Aside from the drivetrain, the car was significantly widened and set up to be able to drift sideways will all four tires blazing. This all-wheel-drive Mustang isn’t the typical car you’ll see Ken Block driving and that’s what makes Gymkhana SEVEN so cool.

Description

We’re betting that a safety upgrade won’t hurt the value or appeal of our 1963 Corvette one bit. When you’re restoring a rare and expensive automobile, there’s always the question whether to upgrade it. And if so, how, and with what. The value of our 1963 Corvette is in its originality, or at least in its original appearance. But that means skinny reproduction tires, heavy manual steering and drum brakes all around. So, what do you do?

Description

It’s the moment of truth after redoing the rear suspension for the second time. After spending plenty of time and money trying to make the stock leaf springs work, we gave up and took it all out. That’s OK as we’re more than pleased with the result. No rattles and no shakes, but the ride is way too stiff and a tire is still scuffing the inner wheelwell when turning into uphill driveways.

Description

“Custom” sounds like a great word, but it comes with a price, and not just dollars. When you start down a road where you’re not only building an engine, but doing something that isn’t very common, you might want to rethink it for a couple of reasons: it’s going to be expensive, it’s going to take a long time and there’s always the chance it might not work all that well. . .

Have you ever been at a restaurant – practically starving – and ordered something that sounded delicious only for it to be massively disappointing? Who hasn’t. Well, this is the automotive equivalent of that. Our eyes are bigger than our stomachs.

Description

Build for the purpose, not to get the really big number. It looks pretty, sounds tough and has hair-trigger throttle response. Although this is not the engine that eventually took up permanent residence in the Mustang – that’s left to our new 331 that really shows just how far engine technology has come – the next step was to dyno test it to verify our modifications. . .

Description

Real-life imitates the gaming world, with a tip of the hat to a pioneer of aerodynamics.
The Chaparral 2X Vision Grand Turismo pays Homage to the relationship between Chevrolet and racing-car design Jim Hall. If challenged, perhaps Hall would have designed something like this today. The car was designed for a video game and then this real-life version was built as a design study.
