Description

Here’s one that Ford got right, right from the beginning. Ford introduced the Explorer for 1991 as a replacement to the ungainly-looking Bronco II. Since then, enthusiastic buyers have been gobbling them up and other automakers have been trying to replicate the success. The current-gen Explorer, introduced for 2011, was a crucial turning point for the brand as it pulled away from its rough and tumble – and thirsty – truck-based roots. The new model drove great, was quiet and looked fantastic.

Description

Yukons could carry and tow just about anything imaginable. Inside, there was room for up to nine passengers as well as their personal effects. A gymnasium-sized cargo hold opened up with the middle and rear seats removed. The range of V8 engines was significantly more powerful than the previous powerplants and they achieved slightly better fuel economy (the hybrid being the best of the group).

Description

Weighing in at just over 3,000 pounds, it was much lighter than the Camaro, thanks to its unitized body construction (no frame). And with a 275-horsepower 340-cubic-inch V8, a four-speed manual transmission and deep 3.91:1 rear axle gears, you had a car capable of humiliating nearly everything short of the top-shelf, high-dollar musclecars. That this feat was achieved with such a mild engine (compared to similar engines of the day) was nothing short of amazing.
