¥ Four-cylinder cop car will be thrifty, but the baddies will likely outrun it: Ford’s next police cruiser will be the first vehicle of its kind to deliver 30 mpg fuel efficiency on the highway (22 mpg in the city), so long as it’s not used as a pursuit vehicle. That translates to a $5,000 savings based on regular grade gas at $3.65 a gallon, for a cruiser driven 30,000 miles a year over three years, says The Detroit News daily newspaper. Those estimates top the previous generation Ford police sedan, the Crown Victoria, which got 17 mpg on the highway and 14 in the city.
