Description
Other manufacturers were quicker out of the gate with their luxury-oriented sport-utility models, but Honda’s upscale Acura division quickly caught up with its very first home-grown effort for the 2001 model year. (The previous Acura SLX was Isuzu-Trooper-based.) The original MDX stayed around for six seasons before an all-new version was launched for the 2007 model year. It featured a 300-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 matched to a five-speed automatic transmission. Other than minor styling and suspension updates and a switch to a six-speed automatic transmission for 2010, the MDX remained essentially unchanged until a new third-generation model was launched for 2014.
