Jackie Stewart is one of the few racing heroes of the 1960’s who made just as big a name for himself after he hung up his helmet. Formula in the 1950’s and ’60s was incredibly dangerous since driver safety was really an afterthought. Involved in a crash in 1966, Stewart’s experience convinced him of the need to make racing safer, beginning with the proper emergency equipment at the tracks, which soon became a crusade for the young Scot. <\/p>\n
