Auto AlmanacNovember 12, 2018

A treasure trove of essential automotive quick hits. After designing a highly successful Almanac for one of our daily-newspaper customers, we wondered if we could put together an automotive version. As a result, your new Auto Almanac contains trivia, concept-car spy info, auction notes and even games. All along the way, we invite readers to interact and submit their own ideas.

2019 Kia ForteOctober 29, 2018

Over the years, the Forte, along with many of its competitors, has grown up (physically and stylistically) to a point where it could easily qualify as a principal family sedan. Compared to the outgoing model, the 2019 Forte is more than three inches longer and nearly an inch wider. The distance between the front and rear wheels remains the same. A modest gain in roof height means more overall passenger space as well as increased cargo volume.
GMC Terrain: 2010-’17October 23, 2018

For a compact utility vehicle, the Terrain treated its occupants to plenty of space, along with lots of stowage room behind the sliding rear seat. On both points, the Terrain was ahead of the competition. Ride quality was also above the norm, thanks in part to exemplary suspension tuning and sufficient distance between the front and rear wheels that helped smooth out rough roads.
Fine Lines: Subaru 360Fine Lines October 22, 2018

Most imported small cars manage to find a following with buyers looking for economical and affordable transportation. The Subaru 360 just wasn’t one of them, and for obvious reasons. In hindsight, the Japan-built two-door sedan was not well-suited to North American travel and if it hadn’t been for a budding entrepreneur, it never would have been sold here.
The Auto SleuthOctober 22, 2018

If you could have only one automotive feature, this should be it. At Wheelbase Communications, we’ve chosen to stay away from providing an automotive-news column until we could do it in a non-traditional way. And here it is: the Auto Sleuth. Our worldly gumshoe has his ear to the ground, digging up the latest news on everything from product launches and updates to names in the news. The column is solely driven by reader interest. No boring statistics or auto-company pap here, just the straight goods peppered with the Auto Sleuth’s commentary and speculative, gossipy-style.

Five from CESThe Octane Lounge October 15, 2018

The annual early-January CES event in Las Vegas, Nev., is beginning to steal some thunder from Detroit’s North American International Auto Show, which follows the CES event a week later. CES is rapidly becoming its own car show. Not surprisingly, a number of top automakers chose to use the backdrop of Las Vegas to roll out new technologies and in several cases, new cars.
